Search Warrants Yield Two Arrests, Guns, And Drugs in Virginia

Detectives from the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Special Investigations conducted an investigation into suspected narcotic activity in the 100 block of Newtown Road, Virginia Beach. Information gathered by detectives during their investigation led to the arrest of Larry J. Sykes Jr., 28, of the 5800 block of Freemont Ave., Norfolk, VA.

A search warrant was conducted in the 100 block of Ballard Ct., Virginia Beach. Information gathered during the search warrant and arrest of Sykes led police from Virginia Beach and Norfolk to conduct two more search warrants, one at the suspect’s home and one at a storage unit in the 900 block of Newtown Rd., Virginia Beach. Investigators located eleven firearms and a large amount of drugs and cash. The suspect’s roommate, Gerald M. Jernigan, 27, was arrested and charged with one count of Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Control Act.

Larry Sykes Jr. has been charged with one count of Distribution of Marijuana, one count of Manufacture/Sale of a Controlled Substance, one count of Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Control Act, three counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, one count of Possession of a Firearm While in Possession of Drugs, and Revocation of a Suspended Sentence.

Sykes and Jernigan are being held without bond. This case remains under investigation by the Department’s Special Investigations.
